The Manti-La Sal National Forest is a huge forest in central and southern Utah. The Forest Service wants to authorize prescribed burns for up to 48,000 acres within the forest per year.
Prescribed burns or controlled burns, across public lands are proposed to improve forest health. Vegetation treatments need to be implemented to maintain forests and maintain watersheds. BlueRibbon advocates for active, responsible management throughout all public lands including the wilderness areas. Prescribed burns, when done responsibly can the provide future protections for the forest, wildlife, watersheds. By reducing wildfire risk, properly executed prescribed burns will also allow continued access for recreation.
You can read the proposed Forest Service plan here. Comments on this projects are due Feb. 25th. You can use the tool below to send a message to the Forest Supervisor, as always it’s most helpful to include your own words and experiences.
Our forests lack proper management which translates into poor health of our treasured resources and countless dollars of property loss each year. You folks need to turn this around and start managing our resources the right way to improve the land to benefit us all.
Please manage the forest by harvesting rather than burning.
Let’s go back to what we know works. Forest management with harvesting timber.
I think that this is a very good idea as I am a hunter as well. Which I believe will be very heathy as well the animals and vegetation in the mountain areas.
Very interesting information on steps that can be taken to increase the amount of water in Lake Powell. I’ve been going to Lake Powell for over 50 years. I support these efforts.
We would like to see our forests managed to preserve them for future generations, and to preserve much needed water. Controlled burns will greatly reduce the wildfires that ravage our nation’s beautiful wildlands.
The forests clear from and parallel to all over the Rockies and extending westward clear to the coast have not been properly managed for many years and now we’re all paying for those decisions or lack thereof! Excessive wildfires and the draining of essential reservoirs to almost dead pool conditions have become the common and it needs to stop! The responsibility to ensure these things are corrected lay with the Forest Services, BLM, Water Conservancy Districts, but even with each and every one of us who submits a ballot for those we put in political offices! If you want to vote liberal, then hug your trees and don’t gripe about not having water or vote for those who will demand helping in managing in our forests and our water the “right way”! Then everyone wins!!
HEALTHY FORRESTS NOW. CA. SHOULD SERVE AS AN EXAMPLE OF WHAT CAN HAPPEN WITH POOR FOREST MANAGEMENT. THE ANNUAL CA. WILDFIRES CONTRIBUTE TO ONE OF THE WORST STATES FOR AIR POLLUTION (PM 10). TAKE NOTICE AND TAKE ACTION.
Thanks for your work on these issues. We love Lake Powell.
In a German forest they trim there trees 8 ft up, this way all the fuel is off the ground. We live in Estes Park Colorado and for last 20 year the National Park has been doing fire mitigation which I believe help to save our Town. The Troublesome fire “https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/7242/” which came over the continental divide from Grand Lake was greatly slowed down on the eastern side even in high winds do to the fire mitigation. Thank God also that the winds shifted from west to east and the snow came in heavy. A healthy forest that is taken care of does save lives.
Please use the proper measures to manage the forests to maintain and protect our wilderness and watersheds so they can be healthy and enjoyed now and for generations to come.
A well manicured forest isn’t just better for the environment, logging, forest management personnel and the public, it’s better looking. Why wouldn’t we manage the forest properly?
Please manage our forest to the best means possible
Thank you
