JOB TITLE:  Lost Trails Guidebook – Project Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the creation and production of additional volumes of our Lost Trail Guidebook Series. The Lost Trails Guidebook is a collection of endangered trails that are at risk of being closed by land management agencies. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities – both written and verbal, has experience managing the production of professional print publications, and a passion for off-roading and outdoor adventure. The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating with guest contributors, photographers, designers, and publishers to ensure the successful completion and distribution of the guidebook. This full-time position will also include completing other tasks that require strong communication skills within the organzation from time to time.

Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning: Develop a detailed project plan outlining key milestones, deadlines, and deliverables for the creation of the trail guidebook.

  2. Team Coordination: Collaborate with guest contributors, photographers, designers, and sponsors to assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to project timelines.

  3. Content Development: Oversee the research and compilation of trail information, including difficulty ratings, points of interest, safety guidelines, and mapping coordinates.

  4. Quality Assurance: Review all content, photographs, and design layouts to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment with project objectives.

  5. Budget Management: Monitor project expenses, negotiate contracts with vendors, and optimize resource allocation to ensure the project remains within budgetary constraints.

  6. Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, addressing concerns, and soliciting feedback as needed.

  7. Publishing Coordination: Work with the publisher to coordinate the production, printing, and distribution of the guidebook in both digital and print formats.

  8. Marketing and Promotion: Collaborate with the marketing team to develop promotional strategies and materials to increase awareness and sales of the guidebook.

  9. Risk Management: Identify potential risks and obstacles to project success, develop contingency plans, and proactively address issues as they arise.

Requirements:

  1. Experience: Proven experience as a project manager, preferably with a background in publishing, outdoor recreation, or related fields.

  2. Knowledge: Strong understanding of off-roading culture, trail navigation, and outdoor safety principles.

  3. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  4. Organization: Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize workload effectively.

  5. Leadership: Demonstrated leadership abilities, with a track record of motivating teams, resolving conflicts, and driving projects to successful completion.

  6. Technology: Proficiency with project management software, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, and other relevant digital tools.

  7. Flexibility: Adaptability to changing priorities and environments, with a willingness to travel occasionally for field research or stakeholder meetings.

  8. Passion: Genuine enthusiasm for off-roading and outdoor adventure, with a commitment to producing a high-quality guidebook that enhances the experience of our members and supporters while educating them about important issues affecting trails in the guidebook. 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in project management, communications, or a related field – or comparable related experience. 

Location: This position is a fully remote position that may require occasional travel for field research or stakeholder meetings, which will mostly be located in the western United States. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.

Salary: $45,000/year
