CHEYENNE, WY (September 19) -- A "diamond in the rough" trail connecting the Beartooth Highway with Clark, WY, received the BF Goodrich(tm) Tire Outstanding Trails 2011 award recently.  Along with the award, the local group who nominated the trail--Magic City 4-Wheelers--will receive a generous donation of $4,000.00 from BF Goodrich to preserve and maintain the trail.  On Saturday, September 3, 2011, a ceremony on the trail was held to present the check and award.  An Executive of BF Goodrich and United Four Wheel Drive Association were the presenters.

The Morrison Jeep Trail is the only remaining unmaintained road that traverses the Beartooth Plateau.  This trail does so in style and excitement, with a section of 27 switchbacks that gains over 2000 foot elevation while climbing out of the beautiful Clark's Fork Canyon.  The trail is recognized for the difficult terrain, the technically challenging switchbacks, and its beautiful scenery and vistas.  Magic City 4-Wheelers have been helping the Shoshone National Forest maintain the Morrison Jeep Trail for decades, and the award will help the group to do more to maintain the trail's character and unique challenges.

The BFGoodrich(tm) Tires Outstanding Trails program was established in 2006 to raise awareness for responsible use and preservation of off-road trails while providing aid in the trails' conservation efforts.  Through 2010, the Outstanding Trails program has recognized 24 off-road trails and 24 clubs across 16 states and two in Canada.  The program has provided more than $90,000 in grants in support of the various trails conservation efforts.

Both Tread Lightly!(r) and UFWDA are non-profit organizations dedicated to responsible and ethical outdoor recreation.  BFGoodrich Tires collaborated with these two groups to select the finest off-road trails, and will continue to work with these organizations on restoration and education initiatives.  United Four Wheel Drive Associations is the world's leading representative of all-brand four wheel-drive enthusiasts.

Magic City 4-Wheelers, Inc. has been providing area 4x4 vehicle owners with a group of like minded enthusiasts who enjoy getting out there with their families.  The club received over $20,000 in federal grants from the Recreational Trails Program to reduce water erosion on the Morrison Jeep trail in 1998 and the new donation from BF Goodrich(tm) will be used to maintain and build upon those initial efforts.  The group also teaches the Tread Lightly! ethic to all members and the public when possible.
