DIXON, CA (January 10, 2004) — Over 500 members of District 36 of the American Motorcyclist Association gathered at their 25th Annual Awards Banquet at the County Fairgrounds in Dixon, California. This event honored various motorcyclists from Northern California and Western Nevada for their racing achievements or land-use advocacy. Dignitaries from national recreation groups, California State Parks, and the powersports industry were in attendance as well.Ed Tobin, a central coast resident, received the evening's highest honor when he was presented with the prestigious Jim Hutzler Award. The award presentation was to acknowledge Tobin's high level of service to the sport of motorcycling via his volunteer work to preserve off-road recreation at the Bureau of Land Management's Clear Creek area near Colinga. He is an officer for the Salinas Ramblers Motorcycle Club that hosts the annual AMA/FMF Quicksilver National Enduro. The top A Overall Enduro award went to KTM's Brian Sperle. Dave Wood who rides for KTM and Mach 1 Motorsports won the AA Enduro class. Kawasaki rider, Heather Wilson, took the top A Women Enduro spot. One of the highlights of the evening was seeing all the kids who took home accolades for their efforts in the Youth Cross Country Award categories. Dana Jones, the new Twin Cities District Supervisor for California State Parks, spoke to the crowd and restated her commitment to the thousands of riders who use and enjoy both Prairie City and Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Areas. Prairie City is home of the famous AMA National Hangtown Motocross which is held every year and promoted by the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club. Don Amador, the western representative for the BlueRibbon Coalition, said, "This certainly was the largest awards banquet in the history of District 36. The large crowd illustrates the rising popularity of the sport and the need for user groups and public agencies to work together to provide for quality riding areas in this state. I was also glad to see the growing number of youth involved in the sport." # # # The BlueRibbon Coalition is a national non-profit recreation group that champions responsible use of public lands.
