« Back to Trail Rides
Have you enjoyed some outstanding fun on a trail or recreational
area? Have you taken an exciting trip into the back country? Then you
should share your experience with others by having it published in the
BlueRibbon Magazine! Write it up and email it to brmag@sharetrails.org.
At just 500-700 words, it's easy! You don't have to be a professional
writer to write for this segment! Just read the Trail Story Guidelines
below, and you're on your way.
Trail Story Guidelines
- WORD COUNT: 500-700 words
- PHOTOS: At least two good photographs are required. These photos
should be interesting, and should feature the subject prominently
centered. The quality should be clear, not grainy. If you are sending
digital photos, make sure they are HIGH RESOLUTION! (300 dpi+) If you
don't know what I mean by this, then it's best you send them as prints
via regular mail (if you send photos via regular mail, be sure to
include a hard-copy of the story so we know what story the photos go
with).
- PHOTO CAPTIONS: All photos should include captions. These captions
should tell "Who, "What" and "Where." If you are sending prints, DO NOT
write on the back of the photo. Attach a separate piece of paper with
the caption to the back of the photo. DO NOT attach the caption to the
front of the photo.
- TRAIL MAP: Include a map of the trail. The easiest way to do this is
to simply send us a copy of the official trail map for the area along
with the story. If you are good at doing such things, you can draw a map
yourself. Please provide color maps if possible, and originals are
greatly preferred over copies. Be sure to point out any locations of
interest on the map (don't actually draw on the map if you can avoid it.
The best way is to make a copy and draw the points of interest on that.
That way I can still get a clean scan of the original map).
- CONTENT: For the most part, the descriptive content and writing style
of the story is up to you. However, the story should always contain the
following:
- Where, exactly, the trail starts and ends, and any special
instructions on getting there.
- The types of recreation that are allowed on this trail.
- The location of any points of interest along the way (be sure to
indicate to me where these are on the map).
- Warnings of any dangers or tough spots on the trail.
- A suggested skill rating for those that wish to ride the trail (if the
trail is suitable to any skill level, just mention this somewhere in
the story).
- SUBMISSION: If possible, we would like a copy of the trail story
via email, preferably as an attached Word or WordPerfect document. Send
to: brmag@sharetrails.org.
A hard-copy of the story, along with photos and map, should be sent
to:

Digital photos may be sent on a CD to the address above, or you may
send them via email. As a third alternative (if you are familiar with
this method), you may send the file via FTP. Contact me for a password

Please let me know whenever you send something via FTP, so that I
will know to look for it.
