Recreation News FAQ

QUESTION 1:  Do you focus exclusively on motorized related stories?

Answer: Naturally, we are focused on OHV and snowmobile related news. It is a fair statement to say that BRC is a motorized recreational advocacy group. And our search criteria reflects that, so we suppose the majority of our news will be focused on motorized recreation.

But recreationists are rarely single modality or exclusive modality. Many, actually most, enjoy a variety of recreational experiences. When we peruse the news we receive via our “news feed” we do not discriminate, so to speak, between motorized and non motorized and will often post non-motorized news clips.

QUESTION 2:  Where do you find the news stories?

Answer:  The “Rec News,” as we call it, is a cooperative effort by Ric Foster, Travis Poppe and Brian Hawthorne.  The stories come from a variety of sources, including our regular reading, RSS and Google searches as well as stories sent to us from other OHV advocates.

It isn't meant to be a totally comprehensive list of recreation related news. Many stories aren't available online and others require subscriptions.

We welcome submissions of news clips from our subscribers. Please email to: brrichard@sharetrails.org and/or brbrian@sharetrails.org

QUESTION 3:  Who writes the comments?

Answer:  The “pithy commentary” is written by Brian Hawthorne.

QUESTION 4:  How often do you send the Rec News emails?

Answer:  Time spent on the Rec News isn't top priority for BRC's Public Lands Office. Checking the news is part of our daily duties, but if we're under a comment deadline, or other tasks take priority, we won’t send a Rec News. We're sticking with the term “Semi Regularly.”

QUESTION 5:  Do you have a copy editor?

Answer:  No

Seriously, we need one! The Rec News is a labor of love, in a way. We squeeze it in as time allows and this means that it will never be more than “semi-regular” and mistakes will be made.

QUESTION 6:  Can anyone join?

Answer:  Yes, anyone can subscribe. The Rec News is one of our many public education efforts to educate beyond our membership base, media and decision-makers. Best thing is it’s FREE.

We ask that you ask your friends and family to subscribe, as opposed to folks forwarding the Rec News emails themselves. BRC is committed to protecting your privacy and personal information. We do not sell, rent, share or give individual information to anyone.

QUESTION 7:  How do I sign up to get the Rec News?

Answer:  To get on the subscriber list to receive the Rec News, Action Alerts and BRC Media Releases, simply go to www.sharetrails.org/subscribe and follow the instructions.

QUESTION 8:  Who gets the photo credits?

Answer:  Pictures taken by Brian Hawthorne, except for the coexist sticker.

QUESTION 9:  Where can I get one of those COEXIST stickers?

Answer:  A couple of dirt bike/mountain advocates from Flagstaff, Arizona, is behind the That's Smart! Designs. They make them available to BRC via the Coconino Trail Riders in efforts to protect recreational access in Arizona, Utah and Colorado. You can order the bumper stickers by contacting Anthony at flagstaff@absolutebikes.net.  Cost of the stickers is $4 for the large and $2 for the smaller bike size.

QUESTION 10:  Can I submit my bumper sticker for the rotation?

Answer:  If you would like your bumper sticker to be added into the Public Lands image rotation, please send the bumper sticker along with permission to use it on our website, to the address below. Decisions on what gets included in our image rotation will be made by Ric Foster. His decisions are final.
