The state of California has released a draft strategy for how they will achieve their part of the nation’s 30X30 plan. This is an extreme environmental plan to conserve 30% of the nation’s land and water by year 2030. Oftentimes people hear “conserve land and water” and don’t understand how that can be a bad thing. These groups and movements want to restrict use of all kinds and essentially lock out the public from public land. If California is any indicator of how lands will be managed throughout the nation then we can expect catastrophic fires that harm communities, economies and wildlife. Governor Newsom said, “We need to do everything in our power to…enable more people to get outdoors in nature”. The strategies used to “conserve” land do not enable more people but restrict more people.
