ARIZONA -  Coronado NF Announces Safford Ranger District Open House

Greetings BRC Action Alert Subscribers,

The Safford Ranger District, Coronado National Forest will conduct a public meeting to discuss ongoing planning and implementation activities, and to provide an avenue for participants to provide feedback on local forest management progress and needs.

Forest personnel will provide updates on items discussed at the previous meeting in March, and updates on accomplishments and changes made since that time. District employees will continue to work to achieve common goals between the Forest Service and the local community for the next six months.

The public meeting will be on November 7, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. It will be held in the main conference room of the Safford Ranger District/Safford Bureau of Land Management Office at 711 14th Avenue in Safford.

Everyone with an interest in National Forest lands is welcome and encouraged to attend.

For more information please contact Anne Casey at the Safford Ranger District, at (928) 348-1962. Information can also be found online at http://www.fs.usda.gov/coronado/.

Federal Plan Threatens OHV Access In Nevada Desert
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in the Las Vegas area is currently fronting a draft plan that could eliminate or greatly restrict both casual and event-based OHV recreation on approximately 3 million areas in Southern Nevada. The draft Resource Management Plan (RMP) creates an unjustified risk that might preclude "dry washes" from being designated as OHV routes. The elimination of dry or sand washes from subsequent project level travel management plans could functionally close the desert if they are not capable of being designated as routes, because motorized travel would be "limited to designated roads and trails."
