We wanted to let our members and supporters know about the House Natural Resources Subcommittee meetings happening this week that are related to public lands. First up this week is an Oversight Hearing on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. The House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation will hold an oversight hearing on "Impediments to Public Recreation on Public Lands." We wanted to let our members and supporters know about the House Natural Resources Subcommittee meetings happening this week that are related to public lands.

First up this week is an Oversight Hearing on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. The House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation will hold an oversight hearing on "Impediments to Public Recreation on Public Lands."

On Thursday, May 9th, the Subcommittee will hold a hearing that will discuss legislation aimed at access for  hunting and fishing on public lands and designation of a 55,000-acre national monument in southeastern New Mexico.

We've pasted information for both hearings below. You can also check out the proceedings on the legislative hearing website. The live video webcasts begin approximately 10 minutes prior to the start of each meeting.

On Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in room 1324 Longworth House Office Building, the Subcommittee on Public Lands and Environmental Regulation will hold a legislative hearing on the following bills:

  • H.R. ___ (Benishek), To direct Federal public land management officials to exercise their authority under existing law to facilitate use of and access to Federal public lands for fishing, sport hunting, and recreational shooting, and for other purposes.
  • H.R. 586 (Young), To provide for certain improvements to the Denali National Park and Preserve in the State of Alaska, and for other purposes. "Denali National Park Improvement Act" 
  • H.R. 995 (Pearce), To establish a monument in Dona Ana County, New Mexico, and for other purposes. "Organ Mountains National Monument Establishment Act" 
  • H.R. 1411 (Huffman), To include the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands in the California Coastal National Monument as a part of the National Landscape Conservation System, and for other purposes. "California Coastal National Monument Expansion Act of 2013"

ARIZONA - BLM Extends La Posa Travel Management Plan Comment Period
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Yuma Field Office La Posa Travel Management Plan (TMP) comment period has been extended for an extra 30 days to Monday, March 23, 2015. CALIFORNIA & NEVADA - Tahoe NF Announces Proposed Action for Over-Snow Vehicle U
The Forest Service will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on a proposal to designate Over-Snow Vehicle (OSV) use on roads, trails and areas on lands within the Tahoe National Forest. The EIS will also identify snow trails available for grooming on the Forest. Public input on the initial proposed action is encouraged. The Tahoe National Forest maintains a world-class OSV trail system. Designating OSV use on the Forest will ensure over-snow vehicle activity, such as snowmobile riding,
