OREGON - Annual Call For Proposed Revisions To Fremont-Winema NF's MVUM

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

The Fremont-Winema National Forest is beginning the process that will lead to publishing 2013 Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM). At this point in the annual publication production process, the Forest requests the public to submit all proposed revisions to the road or motorized trail designations displayed on the 2012 MVUM no later than July 6, 2012. Any input received after July 1 will be considered for integration into the 2014 maps.

"Forest users are welcome to propose revisions to the MVUM at any time during the year," said Rick Newton, Deputy Forest Supervisor. "The Forest will evaluate all proposed changes to determine which of them can be incorporated into the next publication of the MVUM or may require additional in-depth environmental study."

The MVUM is the legal document stipulating which Forest Service roads and trails are designated for motor vehicle use across the Forest. It has been divided into 11 maps to provide sufficient detail for users. The MVUM must be issued every year, which allows the Forest an annual opportunity to correct mapping errors or discrepancies and update travel management decisions.

The MVUM production process includes an evaluation of proposed revisions, data preparation and printing. To allow time to complete all the required steps, the Forest has to begin production of next year's MVUM the first part of July of the current year in order for the new MVUM to be available to the public the first part of April of the next year.

Instructions on how to submit MVUM revision proposals can be found on the Forest Web site at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/fremont-winema/mvumrevisions

Thanks in advance and, as always, please call or email with questions or concerns.

S. 486, Preserving Access to Cape Hatteras Beaches Act Put On Hold
Yesterday the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources postponed efforts to advance S. 486, Preserving Access to Cape Hatteras Beaches Act until the committee's June mark-up. This bill would overturn a National Park Service plan to limit motorized vehicle use at a North Carolina seashore. We've pasted Senator Burr of North Carolina's media release below. Please take a minute to read it over then pass it along to friends, family and riding buddies. As always, call or email if you have any questions or comments.
